Gales - I've been meaning to go over to St. Michael's for quite a while, so maybe I'll use your query to spur me on. I'll bring your info and attempt to get a grave number. And I'll take some pictures, too.
Kath - did you already have a grave number when you looked up your people? Or did you have to ask at the office? I gather - or hope - that when one comes armed with a name and date of death the cemetery officials will provide the grave number at no charge? At least that's what they do at Calvary.

I had called beforehand and they gave me the grave number. This was also the early 90s, so they didn't charge then, but I can't say what they will do now.
Sadly, I have about 8 people buried in the plot, but the stone just says "Gillen," and no little stones around it. I was hoping for some info on them. This is another one of my brickwalls. I can't catch a break with them.

Maybe the $25 "Research" fee is for problems like yours - you could always drop a note to "Oscar" (or I'll ask about it when I stop in):

Hi Lambendsor, Appreciate your reply. Would be great if you could do that for me. Would you like me to send the details of the burials to you. As I said its just the plot number I don't have. I noticed you have the name Lamb Manchester UK on your list. We have friends by that name. If you want me to check up on anything in Manchester or anywhere in the UK I have a number of avenues to go up. Just send me the details. Thanks Again Gales

Gales - I walked over there today, but according to the cemetery office, the Warners were buried in an area funded by their church (presumably St. Michael's Church, on Amsterdam Avenue near West 99th Street in Manhattan) for "Old Men and Aged Couples" - so apparently there is no headstone. There was another, unrelated man named Hughes buried in the same grave (Grave 6, Section E). I canvassed the area they told me to go to, but I could find no trace of them.
This isn't unusual for MY family, either, as they were generally poor and often depended on the church to pay for burials.
Incidentally, most of my Lambs were in Bradford, Manchester, but the male line there dried up when my great-great-uncle left for the US in 1922, so I don't think I have any living Lambs left in England. On another line, my 4x great grandmother was Ann Lamb (born c1805 Manchester), who married Thomas Smith, but I know nothing of her parentage - yet!

Lambendsor, Appreciate your help. Been rather puzzzled over George for a long time. I was aware they both ended their days in a home for the aged, however George's Father Daniel was wealthy and a prominent citizen so I will try and find out why George ended his days so poor. The link appeared to break after Daniels first wife died. [George's Mother] I guess these things happen. Will look into Ann Lamb for you, also lots of the names you note are very familiar, need any help just send me the details. Thanks Again. Gales

Hi Lambendsor, Was your Ann Lamb born 31st march 1805. Christened Manchester Cathedral. Ann is the only one I came across for that date. Born to Samuel Lamb and wife Margaret. Married Thomas Smith 6th march 1825 Manchester Cathedral The only other Ann Lamb I have come across born 1805 was still living at home 1841/51. None of them appear to be on any census or voters registers. However will look further into this. Will pop down to the archives next week. Bradford Manchester is just down the road from where I live. Small World. Gales
