I don't want to mention the details publicly, as the death was in 2006, and there are close living family members. However, if someone could help me out with this, it would be very much appreciated. This death involved a coroner's inquest. Also, the person was "known" in the community, apparently. So I'm thinking there may have been something written in the newspaper, perhaps more than a standard obituary advertisement. He lived in Malton, and was known in the city of York as well. If you would be able to look this up for me, please let me know and I will PM you the details. I have the death certificate. Thanks very much.

Hi Loo As most local newspapers have a bmd section and an archive section, why not try googling for a Malton or a York newspaper and see what turns up.
Or, I believe death certificates state the date of an inquest and any newspaper item is likely to appear in the newspaper within days of the inquest so try and find the address of the main library for York as the will probably have a local newspaper archive and ask if they can do a search for you.

I checked the Post (York) online, both archives and current, but didn't find anything. I'm not sure if there is a newspaper just for Malton; haven't found one yet; does anyone know?

Thanks, Bee. Nothing there either, and nothing on the Malton and Pickering Mercury. I guess I'll see if I can get anywhere with the libraries.

The local paper for York is The Press not sure if this is the website you have already tried but if not it might be worth a go:
http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/announcements/
York Reference Library does have a card index ordered by surname of announcements and articles from the local press. I don't know if it is kept up to date with recent events though.
