Children's Home In Ongar, Essex

Does anyone know of a children's home in Ongar Essex? My husband's grandfather and siblings were placed in one here when his parents split up. This would have been c1902.

At 14 he (the grandfather) was sent to work on a farm in Canada with "a scheme that was going then"....this would have been c1914. Does anyone have an idea what this scheme was?

Sorry it's not a lot to go on. Any help would be appreciated.

You're probably looking for Great Stoney or Hackney Cottage Homes which was part of Hackney (London) Board of Guardians. Some info here.

A bit more checking to do but have found a match for Ernest Harris who went out to Canada as a home child. If it does turn out to be him it will be fantastic, so thank you both for pointing me in the right direction
