TV PROGRAMME - 60 Minutes - Sun 18th May
« on: Friday 16 May 08 12:09 BST (UK) »

Some of you may be interested in this which I received via a Gould newsletter:

60 Minutes - Liz Hayes Traces Her Family History
The journey of researching your family tree ultimately takes most Australians beyond our shores. For those interested in viewing others researching their family tree, on Sunday 18 May you can see 60 Minutes reporter Liz Hayes trace her family roots back to Africa. For more information visit the 60 minutes website.

It might be worth a look  Grin

I don't watch  the show (or the channel) - but they seem to be attempting to cash in on the family history boom  Grin

Thanks for the note Ruskie - I would never have picked it up myself

I never watch 60 Miinutes either Trish, and we'll see if they've managed to produce a half decent show (perhaps ... maybe ...  ?).

I think it may be cashing in on DNA testing too  Grin.

I'm not sure who the target audience is for 60 Minutes - usually not me  Wink.

I   am  the same , I do not watch  60 minutes, usually  something better on  the ABC!  Don't think  it  will tempt  me  over,  but will  look  forward to  hearing about  it Grin

Will admit  to being   unsure as to  who  Liz Hayes is?

Well  done Ruskie for  the information anyhow

kind regards Jenn

Thanks Ruskie!

Like everyone else, I don't normally watch commercial TV (except for the cricket!  Grin ) so wouldn't have picked this up!  I do know who Liz Hayes is, though!  Grin  Was going to say I would watch it, but I see that "Wild China" is beginning on the ABC at that time, so I think that will have priority.  Will look forward to hearing about it, though!

What a waste of time that was  Roll Eyes

60 minutes is certainly going downhill if that's the best they can do  Sad

Now I know why I rarely watch TV - far more interesting things on RC  Wink

A small segment which revealed nothing new, but Liz did manage to wangle a trip to Ireland and Africa  Wink.

They didn't even fully explain how the DNA tests work. Nowhere near enough detail.

The basic gist was that we all originated in Africa  Roll Eyes

I did think Liz seemed like quite a nice person though, and she is interested in her ancestry and did say she's got the genealogy bug, so she can't be all bad.

I feared that may be the case when I saw the intro - I can't get vaguely interested in  dna testing. I have one branch back to 1580 and  feel quite an affinity to these folks I have found - I truly can't feel interested in my ancestors who may? have existed in the nether nether times.
