Lawrence/McColl My great grandparents lived in Penryn/Falmouth before emigrating to Canada. One of her sons was known as Sonny how can I find out his real name. He would have been born around 1903.

Hi A search at freebmd http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl may be a start to lok for possibles, depending on how much is available online to date
Were other siblings registered for Falmouth district? if so might help narrow possibilities eg a lawrence Alfred 1906 You may recognise some common names
May have to then get some birth certs of get OPC's to check their register for baptisms about 1903+
Bye Althea

Hi thanks for your help. What does OPC stand for please, quite new to this. Are there school records I could check for Falmouth and Penryn. I have the names of his siblings they were Robert Britton Lawrence and Eleanor Adeline Lawrence my grandmother. I have sent for a birth certificate that matches family names,so here hoping.

Hi Gribbin In Cornwall there is a scheme running called Online Parish Clerks OPC, where people adopt a parish and try and help folk with genealogy queries and transcribe any records they can find. So suggest you contact the Falmouth OPC first and then may need to spread to surrounding areas.
Always start at Cornwall genuki http://www.genuki.org.uk:8080/big/eng/Cornwall/ then on the town/parish you are interested in and you will see all the info that has been found so far for your area Falmouth http://www.genuki.org.uk:8080/big/eng/Cornwall/Falmouth/index.html Penryn http://www.genuki.org.uk:8080/big/eng/Cornwall/StGluvias/index.html
The OPC contact details are on each page under genealogy or the main page list is at http://www.cornwall-opc.org/Par_new/parishes.php
I see Eleanors birth was reg June 1901 Falmouth, so def around that area Try the OPC they may have info on the family, that will lead back to solving childs first name Bye Althea
Have you an LDS centre nearby?? I see they have school records for falmouth eg one film is Note Location Film Admission registers, 1904-1925 FHL BRITISH Film 1471657 Items 18-22
You can search what school films are available at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp
