William Tacey & Elizabeth
« on: Friday 16 May 08 20:59 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find out more about William Tacey and his wife Elizabeth.

Perhaps their dates of birth when and where they were married and Elizabeth's maiden name.

On the 1851 census they are living at 16 Denton St. St. Pancras.
William 62 occu. Cordwainer born St. Martins.
Elizabeth 65 occu. Shoe Binder born Whitechapel.
Daughter
Elizabeth 29 occu. Shoe Binder born St. Pancras.
Elizabeth jnr. married George Stevens 3/5/1846 at old St. Pancras Church on the marriage certificate William's occu. is Shoemaker.

William died Dec. 1/4 1871 St. Pancras.
Elizabeth died Jun. 1/4 1870 St. Pancras.

Anyone who has any information on William and Elizabeth i would be grateful to hear from you.

Hi Buzz

Im a bit confused...you say Elizabeth jnr married George Stevens in 1846 but the 1851 shows she is Elizabeth Tacey Unmarried...have you got the correct date ?

Hello to both of you thank you for replying.

3/5/1846 is the date on the marriage certificate it is the correct Elizabeth because her address is Denton St.   George's is Gloucester Place.

1861 Census for George and Elizabeth RG 9/117/88 Upper Cambridge St. St.Pancras.

There is a William TASEY Christened in St Martins in the Fields 06 APR 1793 Parents Robert and Mary.
Also with same parents at St Martins:
Hannah TACEY  C. 25 DEC 1788
Elizabeth Hannah TACEY C. 21 NOV 1790

This might be the father?
1841 Census
HO107/738 F 31 P 3
Emanuel Hospital, St Margarets, Westminster
Robert  TACY age 84 Occ. In Pensioner born out of County

A Robert TACEY died Mar Qtr 1848 Westminster 1 437

Perhaps William lied about his age as his wife was older than him.
In 1841 Census William, Elizabeth and daughter Elizabeth were at 16 Denton Street as they were in 1851.

Hope this is of some help

Hi, interestingly there's this ref from the London Gazette of Jan 17, 1868: I wonder if there is a family connection:

"William Tacey, of No. 34, Upper St. James'-street,
Brighton, Sussex, Boot and Shoe Maker, adjudicated bankrupt
on the 18th day of November, 1867. An Order of
Discharge was granted by the County Court of Sussex,
holden at Brighton, on the 9th day of January, 1868."
