Jane Levett nee ? b abt 1802

Hello,
Would someone be kind enough to look up the 1851 for a Jane Levett b abt 1802 Portsea, please? I don't know what her husband's first name was. She marr James Charrett Saunders in 1857 when she was a widow.  She was widowed again in 1870 and appears in 1871 in Daniel Street, the family home. She died in 1872.  Thanks

Hello Karenlee

I think it more than likely is considering that she was living next door to James Saunders, my 2nd great grandfather.  As far as I am aware they had no children.
There is a marriage of an Edward Levett in FreeBMD to an Emma Hollins, and an Edward (pork butcher) and Emma in the 1881 which looks like Jane's son. He may have moved back to Portsea, however, because there is a death there of an Edward in 1895 which would fit him. 

Thanks for helping me. I like to have things neat and tidy.

I don't have many Hampshire resources but if I can help you with anything in Berkshire, do ask.

Hello Valda,
That is great. Thank you very much.  James Saunders' father, John, owned cottages in Frederick Street according to his Will, so it is likely that James had known Jane for a long time before he married her.

All I need now is to find her maiden name.

Either the daughter Jane's birth certificate or her mother's second marriage (which has the added bonus of giving her father's details) will give you Jane senior's maiden name.

Hi,
Sorry abaout the previous message. Pressed the wrong buttton.  Unfortunately,  I am told by another researcher who has the certificate that Jane Levett sen marriage to James Saunders does not give her maiden name.  Only that she was a widow when she married him, which is annoying.  It will have to be dau Jane's birth cert and I will buy James Saunders marr cert anyway for my files.

Thanks Nell,
I will be buying Jane's second marriage cert myself to try to confirm this. I think that the last one is the most likely as Matilda became a Saunders first name from 1830 onlwards and it was not before.

If the second marriage gives no details about Jane's father, I would also check her first marriage for the names of the witnesses in case they give any further help.
