If someone has access to the Endellion parish records, I was hoping you may be able to look for Mark KEMPTHORNE born circa 1800-1805. In the 1861 census for Cornwall he has this listed as his birth place. I am trying to find out who his parents were. Thank you

Hi MysticBreeze,
Mark DENNIS KEMPTHORNE was baptised 16 Feb 1806 Endellion parents William and Charity
William Kempthorne DENNIS sojourner = Charity NICHOLLS 23 Aug 1796 Endellion
I see there was a brother William Nicholls Dennis Kempthorne 1802 who appears to have married as William Kempthorn DENNIS also - others appear to have been baptised Dennis Kempthorne or Kempthorne Dennis that I can see
Siblings (KEMPTHORNE or DENNIS)
Ann 25 May 1797 Betty 17 May 1798 Jenny 22 May 1800 William Nicholls 28 May 1802 Fanny 26 Feb 1804 Martha 16 Feb 1806 Henry 16 Feb 1808 Rebecca 16 Feb 1808 buried 20 July 1832 aged 24 years Hannah 1 Jul 1810 Susanna 25 Oct 1812 buried 8 March 1814 aged 18 months
Charity Kempthorne DENNIS buried 19 Jul 1826 aged 54 years
She was baptised 4 Jul 1771 Endellion parents William and Ann
William NICHOLLS husbandman = Ann PHILLIPS 24 Oct 1759 Endellion
I don't see any further sign of the name Dennis in Marks line. His childrens baptisms just list Kempthorne
Mark KEMPTHORNE otp = Elizabeth TIPPET otp by Banns 2 Aug 1828 Newlyn East both signed with their marks witnesses John Oliver and Robt Cundy
Banns published between Mark KEMPTHORNE and Elizabeth TIPPET both otp 6, 13 and 20 July 1828 Newlyn East
Cheers Kris

Thank you again. I'm not sure if you have access to the 1840 Cornwall Census but if you don't, and someone does, is William Kempthorne Dennis showing??

You are very welcome
We are very fortunate indeed in Cornwall. The Cornwall Census is free online

I did look for William and alas could find nothing further - No baptism, no burial listed pre 1837 - I don't see his death in the GRO indexes 1837-1841 and I don't see him in 1841. Sorry. Hope you have better luck than me............Kris

I had assumed this was the sons marriage - maybe not
William Kempthorne DENNIS = Elizabeth SKINNER 12 May 1829 Endellion
Now the sons wife is Elizabeth and oldest child is 10 so it does fit
more work required
Goodness it looks like father may still be alive in 1851 though he has dropped a few years
POB St Breward

Your fantastic! You obviously know where to look and what your doing. I've spent alot of time just researching here in New Zealand but now need to branch out overseas to research further. I have many ancestors in Cornwall so I'm rapt that there are so many online searches available. I had a quick look for St Breward but it looks like they don't hold baptisms for that period

Kris - what do you think about this on the LDS site: William DENNIS baptised 14 February 1768 St Breward - parents John Dennis and Mary ?

I am looking at St Breward marriages. Quite a bit of Kempthorne activity but I don't see John Dennis
I was wondering if William may have been illigitimate seeing the uncertainty of the surname
I did spot a marriage with the union of the two names
Thomas KEMPTHORNE of St Mabyn = Alice DENNIS 8 July 1765
