I believe an ancestor of mine died in WW2, between 1941 and 1943, but his death does not appear on the CWGC nor in the B/D/M/.
I believe the CWGC is not comprehensive and some of the fallen have not been entered. The name is Edgar Roy Wilshere and in his marriage certificate he disclosed himself as a soldier. However no regiment was mentioned. As there were civil engineers in his family, logically he would be Royal Engineers. (Is the Army logical?) I have tried various permutation of the name in the GWGC list, but no show.
Can anyone give me any ideas where I can confirm this matter. The relative is to distant, to go to the Kew records.

Hi, The Royal Engineers have their own museum: http://www.remuseum.org.uk/ It might be worth you contacting them to see if they know of your ancestor. I did the same thing for my father who I thought had connections with the Sherwood Foresters, and contacted their museum. Someone had gone through various articles, etc etc and had complied a list of people they had found connected with the regiment - both living and dead. They did find his name and some information, which included an army service numbe. This has enabled me to send for his army service record, which I now have in my possession. Worth a try - good luck. Kind regards, Paulene

I checked the WW2 roll of honour. He is not there, but I believe this is also not comprehensive.

Hi Paulene,
Thanks for the feed back. I have drawn a very long bow in thinking Edgar was in the R.E as his grandfather was a civil engineer and I believe possibly his father.
I will keep your suggetion up my sleeve for possible later use.

Do you by any chance have any photographs of him in uniform - if we can identifying a cap badge, or something similar, that would help in identifying his regiment. Paulene
