Problems with flat screen monitor
« on: Saturday 17 May 08 08:03 BST (UK) »

Hi

I'm really not having a good week with my computer this week.  After all the problems with Trojans and the Sussex Marriage Index I've not got problems with my flat screen monitor.

When I turn on the computer the monitor is coming up with the windows logo in funny colours, or a screen full of coloured lines that flicker or the progress bar is full of incomplete lines and then the screen goes black.  This morning I managed to get it to work first time but last night I had to give up in the end.  Earlier in the week I had to turn my cursor from the gold coloured arrow to white because my cursor was coming up as a series of isolated lines, no arrow and was really difficult to use.  Changing the colour seemed to work.

In view of the problems with AVG8 does anyone know if this sounds like a problem caused by AVG or it is simply a problem with my monitor.

I doubt if AVG would cause you problems during the boot process when the Windows logo appears and the progress bar is displayed.  In fact I can't see how it would affect your display.

Check your connections and make sure the lead is tightly secured to the back of your PC and the monitor itself.

You may want to download a diagnostics test to see if that detects a problem:

If your monitor is OK then possibly something is wrong with your graphics card.

Hi Downside

Thanks for that and I will try the diagnostic test.  It has been fine this morning since I turned on, no problems at all.  But the worry is when I turn off I may not be able to turn on again.  Undecided
