Hi All,
I think I must be having a senior moment!!
I have ordered a birth certificate from the GRO - with the extra reference of a father's name. When I had filled in the usual details it asked if you wanted extra references - when I pressed the button at the bottom it goes to a blank page and I had to fill in all the details again - is that right?? When I printed out the form the father's name did not appear on the form but I was charged £10 -£7+£3 for reference? - wonder what I will get!!
Cheers
Keith

Hi Keith
Do you think you filled in the "reference checking" part? I have often wondered if they charge extra for checking lines other than the necessary top two - and being partly Scottish, I've avoided it!! LOL
Do keep us informed if you get anything extra for your money.

Why don't you order your certs from the Register Office in question - not only is it quicker, (3/4 days), but your cheque for the full amount is returned if the details are not correct. Unlike the GRO who charge a £3.00 admin fee !!!

Ho Mobo,
Have used the local ones very often, and are definitely quicker - except for Liverpool when I asked for a marriage certificate when I only knew the details as per freeBMD - area, quarter,no Church - they said it would take 12 weeks!!! - so ordered it from the GRO
The trouble with this one is I don't even know the Area properly - just the city - and so would have to try 3 or 4 different offices - this way - hopefully just the one place!
We shall see
Cheers

I've had this problems a few times
I rang the main register office of the City in question and gave them the GRO reference. They then told me which particular Register Office to write to in that region
Worth a try !

Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd take this opportunity to sing the praises of the local register offices I have used. They have been very fast at sending the certifcates often by return post.
Yesterday I even had a phone call from the Chelmford office telling me that the person whos birth & death certs I had ordered was a twin and did I know this. How's that for service!

Hi Sueh
Yes, this often happens.. If you include your telephone number on the letter, most Register Offices are very helpful and will ring you if there is a query, which prevents you getting disappointing news in the post.
