Hi Iwona & Simon,
Sussex-OPC names the church St Mary's, but also gives Harrison's 1911 description in which the dedication is to Saints Mary & Thomas.
See http://www.sussex-opc.org/Database/churchlist.php?k=354&c=0
Not sure what you mean about two sets of parents for Clara. Toni gave you her baptism information which names them as William and Anne - just the one set.
I gave you a baptism 31 years earlier for William Taylor, suggesting that he may be Clara's father. So his parents (if he turns out to be her father), John and Jane Taylor, would be Clara's grandparents.
Sorry if that wasn't clear.
There's no baptism for a Clara Taylor at Petworth that fits with a 1786 birth. Your source is the 1841 census? Don't forget that ages are usually rounded down there, so Clara may be up to four or five years older than her enumerated age.

Hello again Stovepipe
A couple of weeks ago you gave us details of John and Clara Haines first 4 children bap at St Mary's Church Petworth (as indicated below):
Baptisms at Petworth to John & Clara HAINES:
6 Jul 1804 William Taylor, born 8 Jun 1804 [Taylor is a given name] 12 Oct 1806 John, born 27 April 1806 30 Dec 1807 Henry, born 4 Oct 1807 1 Mar 1809 Gregory, born 29 Jan 1809
Source: PRTS transcript (which spells Clara's surname "TAYLER" in her baptism record).
We recently asked for more details of some of their children, among whom was Gregory (above). The chatter advised us that he joined the Army and m Eliza Mona Gough (d of Sir, later 1st Viscount Gough). The 1861 Census records him as 52 with his family. His youngest brother Sir Frederick Paul Haines (1819 – 1909) became the youngest Field Marshall and C-in-C India. Gregory d in 1874 in Ireland. His father was Gregory Haines (1778 – 1853), his mother Harriet Eldridge
We have been trying to convince this chatter that our Gregory could not have been this Army man as the two families (John’s of 11 children and Gregory snr of 4 children) did not tally. The only common record is that they were both born in Kirdford, Sussex as were their fathers
Two problems arise:
1 We still know nothing about our Gregory 2 Was Gregory snr and John related. This is important as my late mother was always curious to know whether Sir Frederick Paul Haines was related!

Hi
Both Gregorys have extracted baptism records on the IGI, by amazing coincidence they were both born 29 Jan 1809!

Hi
The extracted records on the IGI can be searched by parish using this site
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/
By looking at the various entries you may be able to establish whether John father of your Gregory and Gregory father of the army Gregory are related - highly likely that they are somehow. I've had a look (can't resist ) and can't see a baptism for either your John or Gregory born c1778 in Petworth or Kirdford. As both parishes are well extracted for the period, it looks like they were baptised elsewhere, non-conformist or of course not baptised.
I am putting in a link to your other thread so all the info is easily available for others who may be able to help
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,306333.0.html
I will see if I can find anything on your Gregory

Hi
If you look on FamilySearch.org and search the IGI for your John and Gregory c1778 you will find two member submitted entries for baptisms in Kirdford for both of them. I think the site removes extracted entries where there is a member submitted entry which is the same - next time I am in the Records Office I will double check for you.
Grigory Haines 6 JUL 1778 Kirdford Parents Grigory and Susannah Haines John Haines 19 FEB 1781 Kirdford Parents Gregory and Susanah Haines
If you put just parents names on the right in the search engine for the IGI and leave first and last name blank and restrict county to Sussex you will find siblings.

Toni - posted as not sure Simon and Iwona are aware of the sites to search

Hi Simon and Iwona
Have checked the two submitted Kirdford baptisms for John and Gregory - they are as detailed on IGI, no extra info I'm afraid.
