Are these the people on the 1841 who were recorded as being born 1821? It was also noted that they were not at home 'told by next door' In which case ages could be wrong
Does this fit for 1851?

I can't find a birth for the unnamed child - I have looked on the complete BMD Civil Registration list and on Notts Baptism List.
Bit odd

Do you know if Hannah's maiden name was Wagstaff?

There is a William birth reg in Radford June Qtr 1851. I shall have to fork out £7 to find out!!!!!ah!!
- the 1851 census was taken on the night of 30th March 1851!!
I do have a possible birth but the child would have been 1 week old which does fit.
The mother's maiden name is given as Wagstaff and the child's birth was registered in Nottingham. He was William born 24th March 1851 and he was christened 4th May 1851. I think it more likely that a week old baby is unnamed as opposed to a year old
What is interesting is the fact that this couple(still with maiden name of Wagstaff) also have a child called Hannah born in 1844 which matches with the 1851 census. This birth was also registered in Nottingham.
There is a marriage for a Charles Bower and Hannah Wagstaff 26th June 1837, Sneinton Notts.
Have a think.
Looks as though Hannah may have died and Charles re-married before the 1861

Hi Tricia I have a baptism (from Helen Wilson) of William Bower, son of Charles Bower and Hannah Wagstaffe, born 24/3/1851 & baptised 4/5/1851 at St Barnabas RC Church Nottingham. This is the one you mentioned. If he was born on the 24 March the registration could have been a few days later (I think you are allowed up to 3 weeks) in which case the birth registration would be recorded in the June Qtr.
Perhaps the census return should read or be transcribed as 1w & not 1!!!!!
There is a death of a Hannah Bower reg in Radford Dec. Qtr. 1851
In 1861 Charles has married again. There is no William living with them, but in 1861 there is a William Bower aged 10 living with a family named Farnsworth in Aspley Terrace Radford. In 1871 William now married to Maria is still living with the Farnsworth's and with a baby son John. Interestingly in 1891 this son John was living at the home of one of the Farnsworth's daughters. I don't know about adoption in those days, but presumably if the Farnsworths had legally adopted him they would have changed his name. William Bower obviously thought of the Farnsworths as family. I haven't been able to make a connection between the Bowers , Wagstaff and Farnsworth families.
Thanks for your interest.
Eric
I am now reasonably certain that the un-named baby was William. What I need is the marriage cert of William Bower and Maria Parr which should give me his father's name.

Yes, it looks fairly certain - I am feeling a little unwell today so missed the obvious fact that the birth would have been registered in that June quarter.
I used to have a lot of dealings with Helen Wilson some years back and her resources for finding that birth are the same as mine.
However, this entry alone does not verify the family(though I would put money on it) and I would certainly verify it by obtaining the marriage cert. I don't have access to anything that will help you with that.
It 's up to you
Good luck,
Tricia
