Is there anyone who has any information on the HALES Family? I have a query and can't get any further with it.
My HALE family comes from Kingham, Oxfordshire, as far as I can tell, with records from 1600 or so. In the mid 1700s, female descendants (so not called HALE) were deforciants in an action brought by Thomas HALES over Kingham Manor land.
I cannot trace Thomas HALES in Oxon. Can anyone tell me whether he is likely to have come from Kent? There seems to be a lot of HALES there. If so, where might I look for documentation on this? The docs I have seen re the legal action are in the Chapman Collection in Oxford Recs Office but the archivists don't know who Thomas HALES is either.
