john & cassandra shearn early census please
« on: Sunday 18 May 08 07:58 BST (UK) »

John Shearn b1797 westminster married Cassandra Potter at St. James Westminster 20/7/1828. its not a common surname Shearn. i think he is a brother to my ancestor. same christian and surname using the same church he was christened in it has to be the same bloke and he would be around 20 at the time.
then a birth of Sophia Amelia Shearn 1829 parents John and Cassandra.
then a marriage of Sophia Amelia Shearn to either George Will. Boucher or John Robert Dyer Lambeth Sep qtr 1857. trying deaths of her as either surname doesnt work on FBMD

can anyone find any of these people for me in the early census

thank you

thats great that has anwsered the question of which one she married and we can iliminate the bogey Dyer guy.
i thought with their unusual names that they mustnt be to hard to find. of course Cassandra mught have died early and John is a common name so it might be harder to find her parents. only chance is if cassi still alive and john still with her ha ha.
good work.

i just spotted a flaw in the system.
if george a junior is born 1849 then sophia would have been 17 ok thats not bad but they only married in 1857 so george senior must have been married before?

I doubt she is the mother of George Jnr - it would seem she married a widower. I thought I would be able to find Sophia & George in 1871 - very strange - is there any chance that they would have immigrated?

I think with the earlier ones Cassandra and John - there are probably transcription problems. I have looked using given names only without success - Cassandra may have been known as Cassie etc - or has been transcribed as  Huh  Unusual names have the disadvantage in that they are usually wrongly transcribed. Common names are transcribed correctly, but there are often too many to find the right one - all gets tricky - I hope someone else is looking for you.

eeeeehhhhh
ta casalguidi i hoped yod be around. your my saviour.
seems to be a bit of discreponcy about the ages between the 2 census but with that name it must be her. this might account for the other Shearn family i knew were in London around the 1880's.

if they were living in the same house both as lodgers is it possibel they were living together before they married. if this is the xase maybe she is the mum of Georgre jnr. it doesnt say wife does it or does it?
what a shame we dont know what Arthur age 2's name was as there are quite a few Arthurs in my family. it may have been a relation.

Sophia and Arthur were both listed as BOUCHER in 1851 - the relationship to the head of household looks like lodger for George (with a ditto for Sophia) but, as I said, is very difficult to read.  If it said wife or any additional information I would have said so Wink

It looks likely that they were "husband" "wife" and "son" given the matching ages and birthplaces - Arthur would be the same age and have the same birthplace as George in 1861 so they may well be one and the same child Wink
