Sinclair death record
« on: Monday 19 May 08 06:34 BST (UK) »

Hello i wonder if someone can help me i am trying to find a death record for David Sinclair he was born between 1773 -1780 in little dunkeld perthshire i figured that out from an 1841 census . I haven't been able to find him on 1851  census so i assume he died 1841 - 1855 ,i looked on Scotlands people site but deaths only start from 1855 and i think he died before then.
He married a Catherine Mcduff in 1813 Little dunkeld i found her death record where it stated she died in redgorton 1865 and her deceased husband  David Sinclair was a farmer.
Can anyone please help me i hope i haven't made  my message to complicated.

Hi Just a Scot

Welcome to RootsChat  Smiley

Official registration for births, marriages and deaths only began in Scotland from 1855 (the reason you are not finding any deaths before this date). Before this year you have the Old Parish Registers (OPRs) for the Established Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) for births and marriages only available to view on Scotlands People (original images) or IGI at Family Search.

There are some death OPRs available but these are patchy and I'm not sure of the situation for Perthshire (not available on line to view/search). You might want to enquire with local history groups for the area or check at the National Archives of Scotland to see what is available. Your other route may be monumental incriptions that have been transcribed for the area.

Regards.

Hi Monica

Thankyou for your reply it shame those records just miss my cut off date. Would it still be possible find out David's parents from his marriage record, i have looked that up on Scotlands people and read the parish record but it only says the brides parents if i were to get hold of the certificate, which it would be 1813 would list the parents of the groom.

Thanks

Hi Just a Scot

In 1813 there were no certificates issued only banns. Certificates did not come into being until official registration began in 1855.  Whatever information is on the OPR'S that you looked up on SPeople will be all that you can find. Churches varied on how much information they put on the banns. That is my understanding.

Hope this helps

Hi Joyful
