Hi Steve
Always glad to help someone. I work a couple of minutes from the Local History Centre which while the new library is being built is in the Civic Centre and its much better going there for a lunch break than wandering round the city centre(or staying at work near the phone).
There is an index of Death Notices from the Evening Chronicle which are on film at the Centre , you can find it on the Genuki Northumberland web-site under " Newspapers" it covers 1885 - 1906 wth later ones given a date of death its usual to find a death notice within a week so it is not too time taking to find them
                                     Regards
                                              Grant

hi Grant
I have had a look on the genuki indexes but can't find the one i was after for 1889 so probably the family did not place a notice,i suppose back then not everyone did. Thanks for your help.
cheers
