Whiteford of Campbeltown and Morton of Newmilns
« on: Wednesday 19 January 05 11:17 UTC (UK) »

Looking for information about James Whiteford who married Jean Wylie on 27/8/1849 at Mid Glencraig Campbelltown.  James and Jean migrated to Australia on the "Garland"arriving in Melbourne in July 1852.  They had two children when they left Scotland, Mary 2 and Thomas 1.

James was the son of a Captain Whiteford.  Jean was the daughter of Thomas Wylie fo Caddle Park Ardrossan and the grand daughter of George Morton of "Skylahill" which I believe was in Newmilns.

Would be very pleased to have any feedback about the families and any information about  the "Garland", or where was Mid Glencraig might have been.  It has been suggested that "Captain" Whiteford may have referred to the skipper of a fishing boat of some sort.

Thanks

Anne
