Arthur Firth born 1872 Francis Firth born 1889
I am trying to trace decendants of the above and thought maybe I would start with the census records of the brothers.
I am thinking that Francis would be 22 in 1891 and possibly married, Arthur would be 19, so could still be at home.
Mothers name Elizabeth Ann Firth Father Francis G Firth..I believe that he was a draper.
They lived in St Alban Street Leeds in 1881.
It is difficult because Firth is such a common name.
Many Thanks
Brenda

Thanks Brer
Interesting...Edith S Firth Grandaughter, must be daughter of Francis, have just ben looking at Yorkshire BMD to see if I could see her birth, also ancestry, but no luck.Wonder where husband Francis is, he was still alive because I have him on a death certificate as being present at a death in 1897.
Is there any mention in the 1901 census.
Thanks a lot
Brenda
PS just got yours about Francis senior...thanks

Possibly Edith -granddaughter is illegit child of Sophia or mary???
and it looks like mother Eliabeth Ann is Annie Elizabeth in 1901 -it looks like the same person
Where did you get the idea Francis George was a draper ? 1871 he was a commercial traveller Stay and Corset merchant (and had more children) 1881 Boot and shoe merchant 1891 Company manager ( boarding in london -possibly on company business?) 1901 Advertising agent

That sounds like him suzard, and I have another male lead from that info.... Fred
Will follow that up tomorrow, must turn in now, we are an hour in front of you here in Spain. I keep trying to wind up and go to bed, then I get another message and cannot resist opening it.
No idea where I got the Draper bit from, will have to look back through my papers....but not tonight!
Thanks to you both for your quick replies will check tomorrow for anything new

'Morning' Suz
Well... I knew nothing about son John, I only really started my info about Elizabeths own family from 1881 although I know herown history from birth.
I remember when I was in bed last night where I got the draper thing from...I have a copy of Elizabeths fathers will and Francis is mentioned and his occupation is stated as being as 'Salesman and linen draper' I think corsetry is all tied up with drapery!
The thing is I am trying to find out if there is a line from this family still in Leeds, so need to follow the male line of one of the sons, and probably my best bet is the youngest son Francis junior
but he does not seem to be around...wonder if he died?
Will carry on delving later today.
Thanks again
Brenda

Hi Brenda,
Corsetry is not really tied up with drapery - a draper woud sell material, cotton. From the census it looks like Francis (senior) was a salesman first and foremost and dealt in various types of goods. maybe the time he was a salesman and linen draper enabled him to find a draper's apprenticeship for son John W.??
