Please help.
I have the entry for the 1841 census for my relatives but cannot read the place name. The census is from the Parish of Ayr, the address looks to be South Corton or Gorton. Does anyone know which this may be?
If it helps, family info in the census is William 50, (farmer), Eupemia 45, Gabriel 20, Agnes 15, Jean 13, Margaret 11, Mary 8, Ann 6.
Any help would be apprecaited. Thank you. McCann

Hello,
It is indeed South Corton. If you visit http://www.old-maps.co.uk and pop in "South Corton", you should get a few maps for several years.

Hi McCann, I hope you don,t mind but i saw your post on another post and did,nt want to impose on their queries. You were looking for Alexander Mckay & Mary Tunnock on Ayr MI,s. I have a few books on Ayr MI,s. Don,t Know if the one i have is related to you because the death dates are different but i will put it down for you. Its from the Secessionist Graveyard, Ayr, Alex McKay 2 graves. Erected by Capt. John McVicar to the memory of Archibald McVicar his father, Died April 1818 aged 83. On (Reverse) Sacred to the memory of Alexander McKay late merchant aged 65yrs. Cross Street, Died 14th sept 1875 aged 64yrs. Also his wife Mary Tinnock died 24th sept 1877

Scully: Thank you so much for the information. The dates do seem off, but the names are a match. The dates you have are simply 20 years later than mine. Too much of a coincidence? Could there be a misprint on the dates you have? Otherwise it makes perfect sense. Hmmm. In addition, I also have as a witness on Mary Tunnock's birth certificate - Archibald Alexander McVicar! Thanks again. This is getting interesting. All the best! McCann

Hi McCann, I have learnt over time that nothing is straight forward with family history. I have a few other MI,s from the same Church Yard. The names are Janet Tunnock and Robert Thompson, Also David Jannet and Jane Syms, Also Janet Tinnock and John Shield, Also Mary McVicar and James Richie, if these are yours i can Write down the information for you. I also found these deaths from Kirkmichael deaths 1783 to 1854, Euphemia Muir, Formerly residing in Crosshill Burried 25/6/1852 aged 55yrs. Also from Ochiltree 1825 to 1848, Euphemia Muir, residing at Burnton, Died 18/2/1847 aged81yrs, and Andrew Muir, formerly residing at Burnton, Died 23/11/1792, It did,nt say how old he was.

Scully: Thank you so much for checking all of those names. Some are likely relatives - somehow, but I just cant prove it yet. I would hate for you to go through all of the troubl if they are not a match. I will let you know if I can come up with any "proof." Thanks again. I hope I can come up with something.
