Duncan Brotherton
« on: Wednesday 21 May 08 09:11 BST (UK) »

Hi all

I am looking for a Duncan Brotherton b c 1813 in and around St George in the East Stepney. He married a Jane ?   b c 1816 Shadwell
I can't find Duncan's birth or baptism nor his marriage to Jane on igi.
Duncan died in 1875 q Sept at the age of 75

Their first born was Mary Ann Brotherton b  23 July 1833 and was baptised at St George in the East on 28 June 1837, they had another 9 children and their last born was Sarah Brotherton b c 1856 St George in the East.

I did find the family on the 1861 census but nothing before this so may of been out or moving when the man came round to fill in the forms.

Any help in locating Duncan's birth or baptism and or his marriage to Jan will be greatfully appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Pam,

Not exactly what you are asking for (sorry!) but in 1851 their name looks like Bretherton and they are at St George in the  East, HO107/1547 275 16

Hi Pam, if he was b. 1813 and died 1875 aged 75 that doesn't quite add up, i know the age at death was what the informant beleived the deceased to be so maybe he looked older than his years  Undecided

I think it's a typo, Toni. The index says age 62  Smiley

if they had a child after 1837, you may be able to get the birth cert which should tell you the mothers maiden name

can't see their marriage on Pallots but there are a few Brothertons around

thanks Tati

Thanks Tati ..it was a typo on my behalf, too late for me as i just finished a night shift  Grin and need some sleep

I am 99% sure this is my family line as i am waiting for a marriage cert for a desendant for a 1910 marriage of my gt grandmother as she has been my brickwall for ages. Soon as the marriage cert comes it will confirm her father and hopefully i am right on target with her ancestors.

Thank you both for searching for me, much appreciated
