The recipe includes lots of chopped dates. Freeze the cooked pudding for at least a couple of weeks before it is needed. Prick the top with a fork before adding the topping, then, when sauce is added, reheat in the oven until the toffee sauce is bubbling.

Serve with custard, cream, ice cream or all three.
