Overlooked that one. Works to be 1862 her year of birth. Ill look up the Free BDM records to find her.

What was occupation of her father??

and yet Thomas Close Degney married Ellen Naylor Sept qtr 1888 Hartlepool
Then there is the stepdaughter Ethel maud Brackstone b 1885 Barking Essex???
Who was Ethel's mother?
Something doesn't quite add up?
Do you have the 1880 marriage cert for mary jane Simpson and Thomas Degney (themiddle name of Close is not used on that reg)
Do you have a birth reg for Ada Degney???

Hi, Thomas and Mary Jane are certainly registered as the father and mother of John George Degney but I can find no record of an Ada Degney on FreeBMD, unless under a variant of the name Degney.
I know I am descended from John George Degney but I have had trouble with the fact that Thomas Close Degney appears to have been only 16 when he married Mary Jane (but listed as 19 so lied about his age - plausible) but find it harder to believe that he remarried in the same month as the death of his first wife.
Maybe people got over things quicker in the old days?

As Mary jane died at the beginning of July -maybe Thomas didn't marry until the end of Sept - still not much time in between!

Thomas Degney and Mary Jane Simpson, they married on 2 Nov 1880 at the register office, middlesbrough. Mary Jane is listed as 18, Thomas as 19.
marriage certificates for Thomas Close Degney
2 Nov 1880 Thomas Degney age 19 Bachelor Iron Moulder - Father John Degney, labourer
Mary Jane Simpson 18 Spinster - Father James Simpson, labourer
1891 census states : Thomas Close Degney married again in after the death of his 1st wife.
Ada have her as born 1887 Middlesbro.ENG.
