Hi
I am struggling to find two marriages for my GROOMBRIDGE family latterly of Richmond. Does anyone have access to any marriage indexes which may help with this problem? A check on the Surrey marriage index did not find anything suitable so I am now wondering about the Middlesex area.
This is what I know so far
Frederick Groombridge baptised 8 Apr 1790 Richmond parents John Groombridge and Mary Sophia
As far as I can tell the first child of this couple was John Groombridge baptised Richmond 31 Aug 1783 but there is no corresponding marriage in Richmond and nothing showing on the IGI in Surrey or London.
I have this baptism for Frederick's father
John Groombridge 21 Jun 1761 Richmond Parents John Groombridge and Mary
As far as I can tell the first child of this couple was Elizabeth baptised Richmond 4 May 1760- there is no marriage for John and Mary in Richmond c1759 and again nothing showing in Surrey or London on the IGI.
I have a will for Frederick's grandfather John from 1794, he was a carpenter as was Frederick's father. John senior was buried in Richmond 9 Jul 1794 Aged 70. John junior is in Richmond workhouse age 80 in 1841. The two Marys were buried Richmond 2 Aug 1814 Aged 90 and 25 Aug 1820 Aged 58.
Thanks in advance Jan

Thanks for those Sue, they look very good possibles Need to check somehow whether the two couples had children in Middlesex.

Hi
A bit more weight to those marriages being the ones
Have found a burial for Sophia Groombridge Richmond 18 Jul 1825 Age 63
Think this is more likely to be Frederick's mother than the Mary buried 1820 age 58 as there isn't another Sophia of suitable age that I can find. Also at the baptism of their last child Louisa in 1800 she is plain Sophia not Mary Sophia.
