Florence Potter born Yalding Kent 1869
« on: Thursday 11 June 09 06:50 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I have just discovered that my Grandfather Benjamin Williams married Florence Potter Dec 1910 quarter in Hampstead London.
1911 census has her living in Argoed, Monmouthshire
I am trying to discover more about her, how long was she married did they have any children together, no one has ever mentioned her!
found in 1891 census as 22 year old in Southwark London parents are Alfred and Dulcibella both born in Yalding Kent.
1881 census has the family in East Peckham, Kent.
I cannot find Florence as yet in the 1901 census maybe she was married?
Any help would be most welcome and i thank you in advance.
kind regards
Paul Williams

First step will be to get the marriage cert.
That will tell you if Florence had been married before (thus her maiden name would not be Potter) and will give her fathers name and occupation.

Otherwise it will be hard to be sure the person you have found on 1891 (and are loking for on1901) is the right person

Hiya,
yes a certificate should give the information.
in the past i have been sent numerous wrong ones by the office in southport even though i had the correct information, just dont see the point of wasting money, would rather go direct to the registrar office and speak to them.
they are usually more than helpful.

I've found Florence's Baptism in Yalding, but for some reason she was baptised twice.

1868 27th July  Florence  Dau of Alfred & Dulcibella POTTER
1868 4th Oct  Florence  Dau of Alfred & Dulcibella POTTER
Note against both entries: Yalding (Wheelwright)

Hiya,
thanks for that update thats very strange, i know if a child was ill and may not live they would be baptismed very quickly, but twice within a few months is unusual.
kind regards

The only thing I can think of it that the first was a private baptism soon after birth because she was very ill, she recovered & the 2nd was the usual baptism in church. Perhaps her parents felt she would then be baptised 'properly', & to give thanks for her recovery.
