Looking for Leonard Larson.
« on: Saturday 24 May 08 11:17 BST (UK) »

I know this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone out there know,or knew of a Leonard Larson who was born in Scotland? He would have been born in the 1920's and he fought in Italy in WW2.
An old pal of his from those Italian days is looking for him. His name is Maurice, and he is very anxious to contact him if at all possible.
It may be that poor Leonard is now dead, but I don't have any access to Scottish BMD's, only Findmypast.com, and FreeBMD.
I really hope that someone can help.
Regards.
Ann.

Hello Ann

Just had a look using the free search facility on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and can't find a death for him with the spelling you gave and several variants.  Regards,  Steve

Thank you both very much for taking the trouble to look for me.
It looks like this man is a bit of a mystery. I have told Maurice(who is actually looking for him) and he said to thank you both as well.
Perhaps he lied about where he was from? The name Larson sounds a bit Scandinavian to me.
The truth is that his daughter who is Italian is looking for him, and it was her who wrote to Maurice. She used to cerrespond with him when she was much younger (b 1944) but lost touch over the years. Sad, but what can you do!!
Maurice will write to her and suggest the Salvation Army or the Red Cross.
Thanks once again.

Hi Ann,
sorry for bothering you but do you know if your friend has made any progress in finding Leonard Larson.
I am asking as i just read on an italian news paper that his italian lady his looking for him and she even wrote to the queen to find him .

This is the link to the article :

If Maurice has had any luck let me know and i would be more than happy to try to get in touch with her

Hi Ann,

Maybe you could try posting a link to this thread on the Armed Forces board in the WW2 section. Someone there might be able to narrow down which units were in Italy and maybe tell you if there is a way to search names. I know the National Archives hold a lot of information but it is not easy to search unless you know what you are doing.

Maybe he wasn't born in Scotland, but grew up there, or was in a scottish regiment?

Thank you Gaia and Kirsty. Sorry for delay in replying but have been on holiday.
I will contact Maurice tonight, but I don't think he had any luck and just wrote back to her explaining that he had no information for her.
Many thanks.
