HI Nick,
I don't have Norton, used to have AVG but just changed to Avast - same problems with both Sad
Paulene Smiley

Did you uninstall Norton via Windows add/remove programs, or did you use the Norton Removal Tool ?

Norton is harder to completely eradicate from your PC than the viruses that it's supposed to protect against !  Roll Eyes

I uninstalled the enhanced viewer and have been using the basic viewer, but because it is limited when checking information regarding districts, I decided to download the enhanced again.
It worked fine for about 10 images and then froze again!!!! So, off it's come again.
So, no better now I've changed virus detector (not Norton).
Has anybody managed to get a reply from Ancestry since registering the problem, please? I've followed all the advice on the thread and on their site, but without success, so I would really appreciate knowing if anybody has manged to solve the problem, or heard from ancestry themselves.
Thank you.

I  emailed Ancestry about this problem weeks ago and as yet have had no reply..

I am fully convinced that it has nothing at all to do with any security or anything that is on our PCs...

I can go on the site for about 3 hours at good speed, and no set backs at all, then all of a sudden off it goes, been like this for some months now..

I still say that Ancestry cannot cope with all the user's and that they are deliberately limiting our usage of the site.

Strangely enough I haven't had any problems recently. I don't think I'm doing anything differently than before but Ancestry has been behaving itself.

I too think Ancestry are doing this deliberately to limit access at busy times. I don't believe it is to do with security systems at all. There is no problem with loading the index transcriptions, or the images for a certain amount of time. Then, after a couple of hours or so (I will have to log and monitor this) images simply won't load.

If Ancestry are applying some kind of usage limitation they should come clean and tell us.

I have also had the same problems with Ancestry freezing when i am trying to download the BMD images.
Thought it was my computer- However we have just updated our Norton account so  i guess it could be that Sad
Its  all a bit confusing for me. I tried to email Ancestry to sort out the problem but couldn,t figure out where to send it Huh

Hope its sorted soon cos its really irritating and stopping me from enjoying my subsciption!

I think we should all email Ancestry to complain each time it happens, and really try to get to the bottom of this.

Dolly Dimples, maybe you are like me and have it  happening daily? I admit I am quite a heavy user at the moment because of the nature of my current research, but there is no mention of any usage limitation anywhere that I have seen

I can view a few images on Ancestry, then my browser crashes. This has been happening for some time & I thought I was just unlucky.
Seeing that so many people, using different browsers & AV programs, have problems has convinced me the problem is with Ancestry.

Next time it happens, I'm going to complain.

I had been getting the same problem that the pages were freezing on downloads. I have now overcome this by increasing the 'Disc Space to use' in my Internet Temp Files from 250 to 750 MB. Simply RC on Internet Explorer, Properties, and Bowsing History. Cured it for me.
DID YOU TRY THIS. IT WORKED FOR ME

Anne, I do use Ancestry on a regular basis, but am never on more than

about four hours at any one time, and no it is not a daily happenong , just if I do about a 2/3 hour stint, then chop chop!    being a fully yearly paid  up member I

would expect to be able to access Ancestry as and when I choose.  As you

rightly say they don't express any rules to say otherwise..

Members of Genes Reunited have all complained, but no-one gets a solution..  I informed A  that I will not be renewing in August if it does not improve, but no one seems to be there... Helllloooooooo Ancestry !!!!
