trying to find new information on the mason,s from Bosbury
« on: Sunday 25 May 08 13:26 UTC (UK) »

Hi all,

I have just about exhausted the census returns for information to the Mason family tree & was wondering where else I can look.I have even gone to hereford record office, but found it a bit heavy going finding information.Could it be I need to visit local church record departments for the bosbury area & if so which churches in the area have a records viewing facility.
Any guidance would be appreciated.Thanks

Hi Andy

Have you tried the IGI records on line http://www.rootschat.com/links/0bq

If you want to search by parish try Hugh Wallis' Batch Nos. site http://www.rootschat.com/links/03h4/

Hereford record office is still your best bet for copies of parish registers. Perhaps on a return visit you might feel more at home? You could always ask the staff for help.

Why not contact them in advance to ask questions about where to look?

Hi Netti and Andy

I agree with you, have been to Hereford RO a number of times, found the staff very helpful.  A first visit appears daunting not knowing your way round the records. I find it takes at least a couple of visits to get the feel of a record office.

Checking the extracted IGI records with the originals at the local record office confirms the details are correct, just in case the transcription is wrong (not unknown!).

Good suggestion to e-mail first, ask if the records you are interested in are available and in what form, i.e. microfiche, microfilm, or originals.
