1851 Census Lookup Please - PETCH
« on: Monday 26 May 08 13:06 BST (UK) »

Hi.
Could some one please look up Mary Louisa Petch on the 1851 census please.
She was married age 19 in 1846 to Henry Petch, so her birth year should be about1827.
I have Henry Petch and daughter in the 1861 census and he is a widower.
I don't have access to the 1851 census.
Thank you.
William James.

Hi again  Smiley

Where and when was Henry born?

(If he's the one born ca. 1821 Calford with a daughter Kate then his wife in 1851 was called Elizabeth  Tongue)

Hi Tati.
Yes that is him. In the 1861 census he is down as a widower, with a 13 year old daughter.
I have 1820 Culford Suffolk.

Hi Tati.
Thank you for the 1851 info.
Do you think that  A) Henry was married twice, once in 1846 to Mary Louisa Rice ( i have this marriage cert ) and then she died and he married again to Elizabeth ?. If so who is the mother of Kate born 1848, if it is Elizabeth then she is no relative to me. Only a birth cert will tell.
B) Who ever did the 1851 census has written down Elizabeth, when it should have been Mary?.
What do you think please.

Well, I have no idea! At first glance there doesn't seem to be a death for Mary Louisa, and I can't even see Kate's birth as a Petch!

One possible Henry Petch / Elizabeth marriage is
Sep 1847 Bury St Edmunds
Henry Petch to possibly Elizabeth Perkins

I suppose there's no doubt that the Henry Petch who married Mary Louisa and the Henry Petch found on the 1861 census are one and the same man?

Hi Tati.
You read my mind i can't find the birth of Kate Petch either, ugh.
Yes i will go back and try to work it back again to see if i have the correct family, as you say i could be wrong with the family.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Tati.
I have checked the 1841 census and have Henry Petch male age 20 born 1821 Suffolk, father Thomas Petch.
And this confirms what i have on the marriage cert.
I will go and check the IGI for the birth.

Hi Tati.
I have checked the IGI and it has Henry Petch born 1818, christening 22 February 1818 Culford Suffolk, Father Thomas Petch mother Elizabeth.
Don't quite know where to go from here.
Think i will have to leave it until i can go to Suffolk in October, and check the records there.
One thing i don't understand is if the daughter Kate was born in 1848 regardless of who's child she is she should be on free BMD. Unless it is a mistranscription.

After checking FreeBMD for all Cat*s and Kat*s registered in Bury St Edmunds ca. 1848 to no avail I had a look at the complete index...

How do you like this girl?

Hi Tati
well blow me down. I have just found the same and was going to post it for you to look at.
I think i have also found her marriage, and am going to take a punt and get the cert just to see who the father is.
Kate E marries Hucks.
Will send for the birth cert first now i think.
Thanks for your help.
