Hi Angela

The Mary Ann Harding born Wheathill on the 1881 at the rectory is also unmarried, which I think is Charles's sister

I'm wondering about the Charles Harding/Mary Ann Lawley. The are the only ones showing on FreeBMD and there are usually 4. There must be two other people on the page that have not been transcribed/indexed yet.

Angela, what proof have you that these two married. I asked before for info about children but you've not mentioned them  Undecided

Have you obtained the marriage certificate to see if they are yours or did you check the church records?

This is becoming a bit of a puzzle - no Mary Ann Lawley on the 1871. No married Mary Ann or Charles on the post 1868 censuses  Undecided

I'm thinking that either they pretended that they were not married to get employment or that one or both of them died or the marriage was anulled.

I've checked and it's definitely aged 3 on the image HOWEVER, the two siblings after her are aged 5 and 2 so it might well be an original enumerator transcription error for 8 when he copied them from the household schedule into the census book.

I've tried every combination. After the two entries on the 1881, one of which Angela says is Charles wife and one his sister, there is only one showing in the 18891 and 1901 - his sister who is with another sister, Sarah.

There are no deaths recorded in Shropshire 1886 +/-5 for a Mary Ann Harding.

There's an interesting birth reg in 1880:

March q, Bridgnorth, v. 6a p 615

Frederick Charles Harding

Is he on any subsequent censuses?  added - can't see one in 1881

Gadget

Added - death of one same age/same name Ludlow, Sept q, 1880

I was wondering if you have got anywherwith this line as of yet? the only reason that  I ask is because my husband direct lineage is Harding, and the name in his family which was past down from generation is Charles, where it be a christian name or a middle name. Do you have any Harding' in Oswestry Shropshire? Just wondered if we could help each other out? regards
