Lavericks of Durham
« on: Saturday 16 October 04 23:00 BST (UK) »

I am trying to trace my line of Lavericks of Monk Wearmouth, Bishop Wearmouth and Sunderland as they seem to have moved between these towns.  My gggrandfather was John Laverick a shipwright  living at Bishop Wearmouth who married Mary Gray in 1850 at the Union Chapel in Sunderland having children Thomas Ralph and Elizabeth before the family emigrated to Australia in 1856.  His father was Thomas also a shipwright  who was listed on John's marriage certificate so he was still alive in 1850 but mother is unknown.  In the 1851 Sunderland Census John states  he was born in Monk Wearmouth.  The only Thomas Laverick marriage I have found for MWM was to a Sarah Unthank in 1807. Huh  I have been unable to find Thomas, his parents or any of John's siblings. The only other clue is a Hannah Laverick was witness at John's marriage.  Please can anyone help point me in the right direction?
Regards Frances Laverick

I was looking on the NDFHS site earlier and they have several unwanted birth/death/marriage certificates in the LAVERICK surname, if it's of any use to you.

Hello janmoore
Thanks for the information.  I went to the site and found a Thomas Laverick listed who may belong to me so I will be contacting the society to get a written copy of the details.   Hopefully another part of the jigsaw will fall into place.  Thanks again

Have just noticed someone else researching LAVERICK in Seaton Burn, Northumberland - don't suppose they tie up with yours?

Hi Juddee
according to 1851 census John Laverick was 27yrs giving birth circa 1834. The only Lavericks baptised at St Peter Monkwearmouth in 1830s were :-
(1) John Robson Laverick bap. 9th Nov 1834
(2) Alice Laverick bap. 22nd Oct 1837
the parents of both of these were Henry & Isabella Laverick

Hi Bones,
Thank you very much for the information but my John Laverick was born c.1825 making him about 26 when he married. And sorry I made a bit of a boo-boo Embarrassed and have only just realised the fact that  I listed Thomas as being born in MWM - , in fact Thomas was John's son born in  Deptford - not his father.!  I just assumed that Thomas, John's father was also born in MWM having married there and John was born there.   I should know better than to assume when doing family research Roll Eyes Roll Eyes I'll go in now and fix the mistake.  A lot of my families have been hard to track down so I tend to get a bit confused between them all.  Sometimes it takes a while for the light to come on Grin
Thanks again for your trouble.
