Hi, Recently found Margaret Burd / James Brown OPRM, 17/06/1763 Muiravonside / Stirling, FR271, 486/0010 0510 and OPRB 22/06/1777 Mary Brown, James Brown / Margaret Burt, FR130, 485/0010 0234.
Question, is there a connection that anyone knows of between Margaret Burt and the Andrew Burt that is married to Christian Black, Falkirk Nailor of Murder Trail fame. It would be nice to add another early Burt to the start line that I have in my tree.
Regards, Dunmac.

Hi Alan, Andrew Burt c1747 Falkirk, Trial 1804, accused of beating an apprentice to death in his Nail Factory, he was tried and convicted, ordered to be flogged round Falkirk and transported, he was later released from the prison ship in England due to powerfull friends pleading on his behalf. One of his own sons William was also murdered 1827 for spreading tales about the love life of a fellow worker and the person involved (Francis Cochrane, I believe) was found guilty of stabbing him in the eye and was the last man to be hanged on display in Falkirk. Hope this is of use to you. Regards, Dunmac. P.S. Andrew had 10 children that I know of only two were girls.

Thanks! I've just started researching the Burt side of my Family and this is an interesting twist. I believe Andrew Burt was my 6x Great Grandfather. Any references or sources of further info? ps - Sorry this has gone a bit off-topic. All the best, AG

I have just learned something here, and feel just a wee bit foolish.
I have an Edward Allan married to an Effie Burd. Edward was born in 1639 and Effie in 1645, both in Falkirk. I have always thought of the name "Burd" as Bird which is how a lot of Scots would pronounce that name today. In fact if you run a spell check, that's exactly what happens.
A wee bit off topic as well but I can't help wondering if there might be a connection. I must research further under Burt.
Thanks, Rob.
