Hello

Around 1812 there was the Napoleanic War also the British were in Cananda at this time. The British were allied with the Spanish so were fighting the French in Spain. Also around this time they went to War with the United States .

I have an ancestor, Joseph Sale born 1790 in Atherton, Lancashire who was a soldier at that time and I've found that in 1812 he was stationed in Bristol where he married and had his first son. Haven't found out which regiment yet.

Hi Liz

Joseph's son's place of birth on the census was always given as Bristol which was unusual for a family which had always stayed in the same place.
A kind person from the Bristol area looked up the birth on the parish records and the name and occupation of the father was given 'soldier'. I've now got his marriage and the baptism of his wife with her parents which was a godsend as she that is the only trace I have of her. Joseph went back to Lancashire before 1841 with no wife.

There was a garrison in Bristol at that time with two Lancashire regiments stationed there.

Do you have any other records of children's places of birth?
