Wrexham Address
« on: Wednesday 28 May 08 14:39 BST (UK) »

Can anyone please help with a Wrexham address.

I have an 1851 Census record HO107/2503 folio 608 which shows an address on several pages of what looks like The Isle of Man. What or where was this area .It looks as though it was next to Pentrefelin (Road?) but I am unable to find it on the 1909 OS Map or any historical reference on the internet

Thank you

Hi

I've found one reference to it in the Wrexam CBC Museum and Archives about a Wrexham Leader article on the 1841 census:

Quote
Looks at Welch Entry, Queen Street and Cutlers Entry, Charles Street, Isle of Man and the old market halls

It might be worth giving the Museum a ring or e-mail if no one comes up with an exact location

One of the old market halls was called the Manchester Hall and that was in that area. Man could be an abbreviation of that. I'll look in my Wrexham books later for you.

The traders from Manchester used to come to the town.

GG

Look at the quote that I've put up before your message from the Wrexham CBC.  If you're anywhere near the area, it would be good if you could pop into the Museum and look up the article. It seems that there was an Isle of Man in the old Market area.

Thank you for the help and suggestions re the Wrexham, Isle of Man address.

I have spoken this morning to the Archive Section at Wrexham Museum who were very helpful. Explaining to me  that the Isle of Man consisted of a row of cottages in the centre of Wrexham but which no longer exist.

They have also promised to send me some historical extracts about the area, so if there is anyone interested I’m sure there would  be no objections to me forwarding copy  on.

Thanks again  and thanks also to Wrexham Archives for their help
