Thomas Gwillim - marriage cert
« on: Thursday 29 May 08 01:37 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for first marriage of Thomas Gwillim, who was born around 1809 at Goodrich Hereford, son of William Gwilliam b. 1776 approx at Harewood.  Don't know his Mother's name either.

Is there anyone who has access to parish records that could  help me find his first marriage.

He married in 1843 to his second wife Susan Haines at Monmouth Wales, but in 1841 have found him living at Whitford Herefordshire.   Seems that his first wife must have died by 1841.

Hello Jan,
Sorry don't have the marriage.. but I have interest in the family & possible
link to mine..
I think I noticed that William Gwillim described as 'father in law' on the 1851Census..probably step father?
I noted that he was b Harewood c 1776 .. could he be poss son of William Gwillim/Gwilliam & Elizabeth Williams bp at Pencoyd & Harewood ? I am looking into possibility that their son John bp 1786, William's brother could be my John Gwilliam of the parish of Llanwarne.
There are also families of James Gwilliam & George Gwilliam both b c 1815
with connections to Goodrich & Hentland...also lived in Monmouth in 1841
regards
Lindsey

Jan,
Definitely not the 1834 marriage of Thomas Gwilliam to Mary Bailey at Walford as this is my family line.  Undecided

Just a possible...Thomas b Goodrich...others baptisms at Goodrich from Familysearch:
George Gwillim bp 4 May 1817 to William Gwillim & Margaret
William Gwillim bp 28 Jul 1814 to William Gwillim & Margaret
I think also a James Gwillim about the same time who m Esther Fleetwood.
Connection with Hentland as James later lived there, ditto George
possible: William Gwillim m Margaret Matthews 1 Sep 1799 Hentand.  Huh

regards

Hi Lindsey,

Well this is all very interesting, must be some family connection, somewhere.
Just on a small note, do you have any photographs of your Gwillims?  I have a photograph of Thomas Gwillim's son William b. 1845 at Monmouth, if you wish to see a copy to compare similarities.

You mention that William Gwillim might be step father in 1851 census, Susan's father's name was also a William,  so there may be an error when written, did not include his surname.

I have found 1841 census, William Gwillim aged 66 Ag Labourer, Michaelchurch - Tretire, so this age does tie in with the 1851 census.

Also in 1841 census I found at Whitchurch, not Whitford as previously stated:

Thomas Gwillim aged 30 Male Servant -    Lillarsbrook House, Whitchurch
Susannah Hains aged 25 female servant
Daniel Meek aged 30
Caroline Meek aged 25
Mary Meek aged 60

In regard to the above, now the interesting thing is, son of Thomas, namely William Gwillim b. 1845 at Monmouth, married Eliza Kearn 1868, and she was the daughter of Robert Kearn & Mary Pugh.  Mary died and then Robert Kearn remarried a Caroline Meek.   So I think this is probably the same person.    There all seem to be intertwined now.

Our Susan Haynes (Haines) was probably born 14/1/1810 at Llanwarne, though subsequent census information shows Dewchurch.  She died in Hereford aged 60 years.

I need to find Thomas Gwillim's death, probably in Monmouth I would say, as he was deceased by 1861 census in Monmouth.  Still struggling with that .   Hope you understood all of that, maybe might need to go to personal message next time

Regards
