Hi Jessica

Goodness, that took some time.

At the moment I am unable to find him in the census unless he is the one staying with grandparents but I need to find his parents marriage first.

He was the one I believe that was born Q3 1885 South Shields 10a 749

I looked at South Shields Bishops Transcripts and there is a baptism in St Hildas Parish South Shields (page 140 of 489) James Liddle to parents Robert and Mary.

Robert is a sailor, they were living Price Street (I think). James was born September 6 1885 and baptised Sept 23rd

Hi Jessica

I see there is a public tree on Ancestry that has lots of very good information with certificates of marriage and birth for the people you are asking about. Is it your tree?

thank you so much for your help. Are you saying you think James liddle was born at price street this would fit in as his wife Margaret Ann Oliphant was also born on price street so they grew up togther on the same street then married each other

On the baptism record on the Bishop's transcripts that was the place of abode given at the time James was baptised.

Usually the mother gave birth either at home or at a relatives so it is difficult to say exactly where he was born from these records.

If I was taking an educated guess I would say yes, as he was baptised only 20 days after he was born so not much time to move house.  The birth certificate should tell you.

James's grandparents lived on Salem Street, he went to live with them by the time he was 6 years old though.
