i have come accross a lily buckley married to james smith c;1878 with a father james smith, hawker and a witness to this marriage william edward smith in essex 05/10/1908.
does anyone know who these ''smiths'' might be, where they are from, etc. i have not been able to find any details for lily and james since their marriage  Huh
would be interested to know if they had children and where they settled/travelled from 1908 onwards.
all help and info gladly accepted Grin

Hullo aa1Webb – I don't think this will help but it's worth mentioning – I have a James SMITH born 14 July 1851 in Maldon, Essex. His parents were Samuel George SMITH and Mary Ann PORTER. I have no proof that they were Romany though.  Just in case you have come across them. There could be some connection.

Looking on the birth index for children with a surname of SMITH and mother's maiden name of BUCKLEY in Essex , I found these children.


Albert Smith,
Mar q 1918,  West Ham  Essex
Conty: Essex, Greater London 
4a 327 

Lily Smith
Jun q 1920 
West Ham  Essex 
4a 511

Rachel Smith
Sept q 1912 
Jul-Aug-Sep   
West Ham 
4a   450

Alfred Smith
Mar 1913 
Rochford  Essex 
4a 1372

Of course , can't be sure they are Lily and Jame's children ... will need birth certs to prove that.
