Where is this place?
« on: Friday 30 May 08 11:54 BST (UK) »

Hi Yall

Can someone please take a look at this extract from the 1891 census  Roll Eyes - it lists the place name of G Grandma Frances McKenna who is listed as a visitor aged 9 (no parents with her) - it is the only census I can find her on  Undecided  she is in Salford

Does anyone know where this place is - I am trying to find other ways of finding her origins as all I have is her father's name (Frank) from her marriage cert

Cheers Kiss Kiss
Jan

Hi Jan

Since Lancastrians habitually drop their aitches*, might I suggest that it could possibly be Hollinwood, near Oldham?

Gillg

* that wasn't meant to sound critical - I'm a Lancastrian myself  Grin

There is a birth of a Francis McKenna registered in Liverpool in Q4 of 1881. Just wondered if it was supposed to read Otterspool Huh

There's an 18 year old Frances McKenna in Field Street, Everton in 1901. Born Liverpool, daughter of James McKenna, boiler maker.

Hello

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions, I may take the plunge and order the Liverpool  certificate, her husband George Heathcote was a boatman who frequented the Leeds-Liverpool canal so I suppose he could have met her on his travels.

However, her marriage cert only gives the name Frances McKenna but her daughters birth certificate gives her name as Frances Agnes Heathcote nee McKenna and the entry in Liverpool is for Frances Alice........... Undecided

I have seen the entry for James in 1901 and he has a similar profession as Frank on the marriage cert (Boiler coverer)so there are similarities  Roll Eyes

I am open to suggestions!!  But I still have a brick wall on this one!

Cheers

Hi There

I live about 5 miles from Wigan and I have never heard of Otterwood - I must look it up!!

My Heathcote's were originally from Derbyshire then Manchester then lived on the canals anywhere between Manchester and North Wales!

Cheers & Thanks
