Joseph McNamara/Macnamara hiding on 3 censuses
« on: Friday 30 May 08 15:00 BST (UK) »

In 1881 Joseph was living 89 Maplin Street,  MEOT with wife Annie, and daughter Flora, (his name written as Namara for some reason) and birth as 1854 MEOT. He was a tailor.

In 1901 he's with Annie and 6 children at 83 St Dunstan's, Stepney, and gave his birth as 1853 Stepney. Now apparently he's a bricklayer.

But try as I might I CANNOT find him on the 1861, 1871 or 1891 censuses. I can't find a birth for him either. Is this one of those spaceship cases?

He died in 1910 in MEOT.

Oh thanks! with your help I was able to find it. I have an Ancestry subscription, so I have access to all the censuses but the search facility doesn't always come up with the goods. The 1871 must be right, as I was expecting to find dad as Thomas (from Joseph's sister's marriage certificate), and using Rosita's name I found them on 1861 as McGamara. Thanks again!
