Baptism 1828 Christchurch Marylebone?
« on: Friday 30 May 08 17:31 BST (UK) »

I'd be very grateful if someone at some time is looking at christenings at Christchurch, Marylebone, they could find one for me.  Bit tricky for me as I am in Canada.

Details: Henry Gambier Bazalgette, b. or bap. 7 April 1828, Christchurch, Marylebone.

All I have is a family Bible entry to this effect.

What I am mainly interested in is who signed the register - whether Gambier was the godfather.
A copy would be brilliant.

Many thanks!

In all the Church of England baptisms I've looked at, either for myself or the look-ups I do for Rootschatters, I've never seen the godparents names shown.

You'll get the baptism date, childs name, parents names then depending on the style of register, if you're lucky, abode, father's occupation and date of birth.

I'm happy to do this look-up for you on one of my visits to the Westminster City Archives.

Hi Dawn,
I admit it is long shot, and any such registry entries I have don't contain the information I am looking for, but I just hoped it might.  I'm very grateful to you for agreeing to have a look!
Thanks,
Charles

Many thanks for that, Dawn.

It does have two useful bits of information which I didn't know, even if the bit I wanted wasn't there.
I didn't know the precise birthdate and I didn't know their address at the time.

Henry's father was in several societies with Admiral Gambier so I pretty sure he was named for him.

Brilliant!
