Hi,
please, please could some kind person do a look up of the 1841 census for Salford for William Wolstencroft aged 31 and Ann Wolstencroft (nee Hughes) aged 29? In May 1841 they had a daughter Sarah Ann but she probably hadn't been born at the time of the census. William was probably a dyer. I have 2 possible addresses Bombay Street and 2 Great Horrocks street. If possible I would be interested to know if someone could find a Hannah Wolstencroft possibly aged about 14. She could have been living with the parents of William as she was his sister. Both Hannah and William were born in Salford. Many thanks Jean Sandra

Here are William and Ann.
HO107/585/10/24 Bombay St (no number given but this is the west side of the street and they are 2nd household enumerated)
WILLIAM WOLSTENCROFT,30,Dyer ANN " ,25 Sarah " ,3 weeks
All born in county of Lancashire.
If you need to check the address in Gt Horrock St, it seems to come under Manchester Market Street (HO107/573/2 Fo 6,12, and 13). I'm afraid I don't have that and I don't have a name index to check any further for Hannah.

Hi Jean,
My ancestors John & Mary WOOD Wolstencroft married at Man.Cathedral Nov.24,1802 had daughter Hannah baptized M.C. 6 Oct 1805 Her brother John born in Jan 1810 was my ancestor who imigrated to USA in 1831.
I am looking for more W. information trying to get deeper and older roots. THANKS..
As of May 2008, believe my Wolstencroft ancestors may be connected to the Bolton - Deane familys. John also had married sisters in Oldham, one was a Stevenson at 50 Napier St. West Werneth. Would ANYONE do research for me at the Manchester Central Library archives ? THANK YOU.

Hi Maurice,
I'm afraid I know very little about my Wolstencroft ancestors. The earliest I can go back is William Wolstencroft born in Salford in 1809/10. According to the 1951 census he had a sister Hannah living with him. Her age was recorded as ?4 which is unfortunate as I need the 1841 census information to give me a better indication of her age. Then I would have a chance of finding her baptism. I don't have William's baptism even though a lot of people born in Manchester and Salford at that time were baptised at Manchester Cathedral. Do you know where Hannah, John and their parents lived? William could have been a brother of your Hannah and John or a cousin or not related at all. However Wolstencroft, although not unknown, was not a common name at that time. William appears to have died between 1851 and 1861 leaving only 2 children Sarah Ann Wolstencroft and William Hughes Wolstencroft. I'm descended from Sarah Ann. If you find any more in your research I would love to know more about your family. Regards Jean Sandra

Hello
Not sure if you can help, but a Daniel Wolstencroft (born 16 May 1894) married into my Chorlton Family in 1927 when he married Anne Chorlton at St Peters Church in Ashton under Lyne.
If you have knowledge of this link I would be curious to know more.

Hi,
sorry I don't have any information on Daniel. In fact I really don't know much about my Wolstencroft ancestors at all and William seems to have died soon after the 1851 census with only 2 children as far as I know. If I come across Daniel I'll let you know.
Regards
Jean

Bit late I know, but I'm a Wolstencroft living in Salford.
My grandfather was William "Bill" Wolstencroft (born 1928), his father was also William "Bill" Wolstencroft, his father was James Wolstencroft. And I believe more of them are further down the line, so possibly the same line???
Not too sure on the dates etc just yet, but will look into it fairly soon.

Hi,
I would love to know more about your ancestors. there can't be many Wolstencrofts from salford.
I now know that my ancestor William Wolstencroft was the son of another William Wolstencroft who was living in Greengate Salford in the 1841 census. According to this census he was born around 1781. He married Martha Brookes at Manchester Cathedral on 11th March 1804.
I don't know who this William's parents were or whether he was born in Salford. His son William who has been mentioned on this post previously was born 1809/10 in Salford.
Please let me know if you find out more about your Wlostencroft family.
Regards
Jean Sandra

I've not got dates yet, just names. But I'll have a look into it and keep you updated Jean, as with a name like that, I'd have to imagine it was one of my lot
