My Grandmother was Annie Norah Scott.
I have been searching for a long time for information about her birth. I know she was born 1863 in St. Johns Wood. Her father was Thomas Scott.
I did find a Scott family in the 1871 census which fits but I still couldn't find Annies birth.
The mother was Kate Scott and daughters Ann 8 and Kate 3. Father Thomas had died in 1871 before the census was taken. I found Kates birth cert but not Anns.
I haven't found a marriage either between Thomas and Kate.
I've even written to the priest of the local church as I think they are catholic but that didn't produce anything either.
Annie married Alfred Russell in 1886. They had 6 children. I have all their birth certs and on one of them it stated mother as Annie Russell formerly Webb instead of Scott.This was the only one that the father had registered.
I did find a Annie Norah Webb but she was born in Chelsea and her father wasn't Thomas.
If anyone has any ideas of where to go next I'd be grateful.

I assumed that you had the birth cert of Kate.
Otherwise how will you know which Thomas Scott marriage it is in the indexes?

Also will you give ALL of the information from the 1886 marriage?

the mother is Irish, perhaps they married abroad.

kate is in an orphanage in 1881, is she not?

Sorry Pauline I meant I had The Daughter Kate's birth cert.

Annie Nora Scott married Alfred George Henry Russell on 8th May 1886 at St. Marys & St Michaels Roman Catholic church Commercial Rd St. George in the East. He was 26 and she was 23.. He was a batchelor and she was a spinster. His father was Alfred Russell and her father was Thomas Scott (deceased). Annie gave her address as the presbytery St. Mary & St. Michaels church. I assume she worked there.
I did write to the priest for any info but he said all the records had been destroyed in the war. I'm thwarted at every angle.

You must think I'm mad. Kate's maiden name was Burns. and Thomas was a Coal Labourer. In 1868 they were living at 6a Henry Place Marylebone.

The orphanage that Kate was in was the St. Anns catholic home for girls. I've written to the childrens catholic Society but they don't seem to know of its existence.

Thats interesting. So Kate could have married William Webb and he could be Annies father.
It would be worth sending for the marriage certificate.
If thats right you are a miracle worker. I've tried for so long to find  something like this. But I wont count my chickens yet.

FreeBMD has the birth for an Anne Norah WEBB, Sep qtr 1863, Chelsea, 1a 163 which could be her. Chelsea is where the birth was registered, and not necessarily where she was born, so should not be ruled out.

I sent for the marriage cert. but I don't know where it will get me.
Catherine Burns married William Webb. Both full age. Bachelor and spinster. He was a Shoemaker and lived in Upper Charlton Street. Her address was just Trinity district. His father was Charles Webb Shoemaker and her father was Thomas Burns Bricklayer. They married at Trinity church Marylebone (not catholic). The witnesses were William Henry Cousens and Adelaide Cousens.
I haven't found anything so far.
