I'd agree with Falkryn,
Note, that there is no need to order 'certificates' you can download 'extracts' which give exactly the same information from Scotlands People (SP).
If you're able to identify specific ancestors via the IGI and want to get their bmds or census records £6 (minimum spend) will get you 5 extracts from SP. These are photocopies - not transcriptions.
A tip which I believe all should also follow - is to check out the free Will search option on SP - people from all walks of life are on it - not only those whom you might think. Run all relatives died before 1901 through it.
Good luck with your searching. And of course post on here :O)
Regards, Steve

Hello jimmain,
ScotlandsPeople (SP) is a partnership between GROS (the General Register Office of Scotland - not GRO which is the English equivalent) and an IT company.
The BM entries (from the OPRs) and/or the BDM statutory certificates which you can view and download (for a very reasonable fee) from SP are both exact copies of those held by the GROS.
Pre-1855 these come from the OPRs (Old Parish Registers) of the established Church of Scotland.
From 1855 on they come from the Scottish Statutory Registers - and contain much more information than the English equivalents.
Note also that the online IGI (International Genealogical Index) on the free FamilySearch site at: http://www.familysearch.org has, for Scotland, - indexes of many pre-1855 entries from church registers (including quite a number from churches other than the established Church of Scotland) - from 1855 to ca 1875, indexes of BM entries from the Statutory Registers.
Regards,
JAP
