Can anyone help me try and find my Irish ancestors. PLEASE  Grin

I was always told that they came from Sligo, but don't know how to prove this.

Here are there details

Andrew Hester b. 1825c.Ireland  married Catherine ? b.1827c. Ireland
Can't find a marriage in UK so they must have been married in Ireland.
They were living in Wakefield West Yorkshire in 1861 with children:
Mary Hester b.1845c. Ireland
Michael Hester b. 1843c. Ireland
Can't find them on the UK census's before1861. So hey must have moved to UK between 1845 and 1861

Francis Coyle b. 1841c. Ireland
Married Mary Hester in Wakefield West Yorkshire 1863
So moved to UK between 1841 and 1863

Father:
Bryan Coyle. b.1815c. Ireland

Laurence Feeney b. 1823c. Ireland
Married Margaret Kelly b.1832c. Ireland in Leeds West Yorkshire in 1852

Father:
John Feeney b.1801c. Ireland

Siblings:
James Feeney b.1821c. Ireland
Mary Feeney b.1826c. Ireland
Edward Feeney b.1827c. Ireland
Ellen Feeney b. 1836 LEEDS West Yorkshire
So given that Ellen was born in Leeds the family must have come to UK between 1827and 1836

Margaret Kelly b.1832c. Ireland

Father:
John Kelly b.1789c. Ireland Married Ester ? b. 1805c. Ireland
Siblings:
Bridget Kelly b.1834c. Ireland
Michael Kelly b.1835c. Ireland
Eliza Kelly b.1837c. Ireland
Emma Kelly 1838c. Ireland
I have them on the 1851 UK census living in Leeds West Yorkshire.
So they must have moved to UK between 1838 and 1851

And that's all I have  Lips Sealed

Hello Yorkshire Rose,

Before you start considering the items listed below which need to be established when searching for Irish ancestors you'll have to find the county where they originally lived in Ireland. Some research into the Irish settlers in Leeds and Wakefield may be necessary. You may find that the following site is helpful in establishing where your ancestors lived at one time although the statistics that it shows are based on Griffith's Valuations which took place between 1848-64. www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname

1. Denomination ... this is important as it's the first step in finding church records.
2. Parish ... step two in your search. Once you've established the denomination you need to find the churches in that particular parish as well as making enquiries about the existence of records for the period you are researching. You should be able to find these details online ... make a note of where such records are held.
3. Townland ... this can range in size from an acre to several thousand acres. In a great many cases the name of a townland referred to an identifiable feature of the landscape ... properties may or may not have had names but it's unlikely they were numbered as they may have been in towns and cities when your ancestor's were living.

You'll have to rely on Church records when searching for several of your ancestors as they were born prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in Ireland. This happened in 1864. Marriages of Non Catholic were registered from 1845 onwards.
