this is probably pointless as it is an extra common name and i don't have much info to start with, i will give all the info i have and see if anyone can dig anything else up on him. i have the later census records after he married but i have no info on his parents.

Name:  John Potts
Birth:  abt 1850 - Allendale Town, Northumberland, England 
Death:  1900 
married : hannah hogarth of rookhope, durham.

i'm not very hopefull but you never know

Here's a possible baptism for Hannah, although in 1881 census she says b.1853

Stanhope,  St. Thomas the Apostle
30 Mar 1845 Hannah Hogarth, of Rookhope, daughter of James Hogarth (miner) by his wife Elizabeth

edit, no, too early, have found this Hannah in earlier census, think yours was daughter of John & Frances?

Hi Marie,

Yes there are three Hannah Hogarths in the 1861/71 census all born Rookhope Stanhope, 1859, 1861 and yours 1854!
I see one of John & Hannah's children was called Lucy after Hannah's mother.

I still think you maybe need the marriage cert to show John's father's name and occupation to confirm that is the right family that Wozzle found in the census
although I can't see another John Potts

1851 census Margaret Potts is listed as Joiner's wife not Farmer's wife
(not Wozzle's fault,  it is a bit hard to read!)
