I've had a look on the Sussex Marriage Index for any Gudsell marriages in Frant around that time but there are none. However there are a couple in Lamberhurst in the 1570s.

Hi Toni
Yes I was just about to say but the postman interrupted me with a Faulkner certificate that those two are Gutsell and there is a later (1610) Gutsell marriage again in Lamberhurst.

Hi Katrina
Well you won't regrent a trip to Sussex in that case.
Another site which is quite useful for baptisms in Sussex is www.familyhistoryonline.co.uk there is a small charge but it has loads of Sussex records on it. For marriages just ask a rootschatter, a number of us have a copy of the Sussex Marriage Index CD.

I knew some names, and the rest was a little harder, mainly I had a lot of help from websites, like births and mariages and stuff. I guess this is an easy one to follow, Im tracing another 4 family names, one got back to the 1100's by chance because once I got down to the 1700s it linked up with someone elses findings. But with the others Im stuck around the 1500-1800. Except one stops in 1900 (coz I havent a first name). And another stops in 1800 because of immigration and no first name.
Its going to be done though. Ill continue till the end of time if I have to.

Hi katrinan
Welcome to Rootschat
Some families are easier than others - especially if they are kind enough to stay put for generations. There can still be problems though if more than one branch has children of the same name. As Andrea says back before civil registration and census records it can take a huge amount of time to check and double-check you are following the right people and sometimes you can never seem to find the proof you need to back-up a hunch. Wills can be very helpful and it is surprising how many people left them.
I would be very wary of accepting other people's findings as gospel - they may or may not be accurate. I found a tree which had 'stolen' my great grandparents and had them die in Minnesota when I know 100% that they died in Bridport, Dorset!
Anyway good luck with your research
Regards Jan
