Maurice & Jessie Burden (Died in Wells Norfolk)

I have been looking for the year of death for Jessie and Maurice Burden.

The details that I have are :-

Jessie Snook born 1892 Woking Surrey.

Maurice Leslie Burden born 1890 Malmsbury Wiltshire.

Married Maurice Leslie Burden in Woking on 1.9.1915

They lived in Woking until the early 1970´s Huh

Their son, Michael Sydney Burden brought them to Wells Huh, in Norfolk to care for them in their old age. Michael died 1986 in Wells Norfolk.

Has anyone access to local records, or local and regional newspapers for obituaries Huh


I would be very grateful if someone could help me further as I have been searching the BMD registers, and have had no luck to date.

I found this possible death:

March Quarter 1973 North Walsham 4B 2162
Jessie BURDEN date of birth 2 August 1891

Have you any idea if Maurice died before or after Jessie?

Not after 1983 and have checked full index for 1970-1975 so that should narrow it down for you now

I believe that BMD Index I have access to is only partially transscribed.
(It´s on the Find my past website) Sad

I have Jessie Burden´s birth year as 1892 from the 1901 census. When North Walsham is in Norfolk, then it would fit in OK. Cheesy

I am not sure when Maurice died Cry

Findmypast site is pay-to-view and complete
freebmd is only partially transcribed and free to view

Jessie's birth year could vary in different census, this is probably her birth registration as Guildford district covered Woking:
Sep 1891 Guildford 2a   63  Snook    Jessie        

marriage registration Sep 1915 Guildford 2a 304
 Jessie SNOOK      to    Maurice S BURDEN

Maurice's birth registration is Sep 1889 Malmesbury 5a   57
BURDEN    Maurice Stanley         (not Maurice Leslie as in your first posting)

North Walsham is in Norfolk, that's why I thought the death registration would fit for Jessie, the only one I could find in Norfolk for those dates

I have since checked the full GRO index 1976-1981 but not found Maurice, so perhaps he died before 1870

Thank you for correction my errors regarding Maurice Burden Cheesy

I have also re-checked the BMD register on find my past and not found a death for Maurice Stanley Burden  Cry

I thought that the middle name was Leslie.  Embarrassed Jessie and Maurice had two sons. 
Maurice Leslie Burden born 17.05.1915, he died 1985 in Watford Herts.
Michael Sydney Burden born 15.03.1921 who died 1986 in Wells Norfolk.

I can remember Jessie and Maurice when they lived in Woking Surrey, but lost contact in the 1960´s. Cry

What years have you checked on findmypast for Maurice?  I'm sure that the North Walsham one for Jessie will be the right one, but if they were at Wells-next-the-sea thought that might have come under Fakenham

It might be worth contacting the register offices at both to see if they can help, also if you were to get Jessie's death cert it would probably show if she was a widow at that time - you can ask the register office to check for the details you know before buying the certificate in case it's not the right one

I´ve checked back to 1965 as I thought they were both living in Woking at that time.

I had contact with Micheal Sydney Burden´s daughter who does not know when her grandparents died. Cry

I will try the register offices to see if they can help me further. Smiley

Yes, must have dismissed it first time round when I was looking for Maurice Leslie and Fakenham or Walsham districts

BURDEN Maurice Stanley,  1973 Norwich O  4b 2608
date of birth 25 July 1888 althouth the birth reg I gave you earlier is 1889 so death cert could show wrong birth year, all depends on whether the informant knew correct age

Yes, I already said this.  The birth reg will be correct, there isn't one for him in 1888, and whoever informed at the death maybe wouldn't know exactly how old Maurice was, but could well have known his birthday, just got the year wrong.  You can never believe all you see in certificates, or census either!
