mclennan triplets
« on: Wednesday 04 June 08 13:37 UTC (UK) »

In the McLennan side of my family there were triplets born in , I think this is the right date, 11 June 1820 to Donald McLennan and Ann Paterson. Their names were Duncan, Ann and Torquil. I found their births on Family Search but I can't find out any more about them. They were born in Killearnan in Ross & Cromarty. Can anybody help?

Hi Pam, I found them on the1841 census when they would have been about 21 years of age but after that I can't trace them at all. Hugh their brother is my great grandfather and i've managed to trace Isobella in service, it's really frustrating. Have you any suggestions what I could try next. Regards Pat.

Hello Pat,

Well, Torquil for a start :O)  - even then it'd have been an unusual surname - have you looked for later census records and a marriage for him.  He'd appear to be an easy hit for a start.

Shall go an look on SP for a marriage   :O)

Nothing on SP - so straight on to the IGI www.familysearch.org.  For the whole of the world using all life events  - brings up 1 entry, an extracted entry for a marriage of a Torquhill McLennan on 22 June 1855, in Dingwall Ross and Cromarty.  To a Mary MacKenzie.
Must be your man......  Just went back on to SP and it comes up with one entry for a marriage .  Have tried with the variant spelling for the 51 and 61 census and the name doesn't appear to show.  Perhaps someone with more experience can try?

It seems that one of the most popular names in R&C is Isabella McLennan - tried for marriages on the IGI

Regards,   Steve :O)

Back off Scotlands People just now - between 1855 and 2006 there is only 1 Torquil McLennan death - I'd say it a good chance he's your man.  Got to run to a meeting.
Update:  Back from the meeting unfortunately I used 'soundex' and the death is of a ten yr old Torquil Mclean in 1896 in Lochs Ross and Cromarty.

On Family Search there is a Duncan McLennan marriage to Isabella Macdonald on March 17 1848 in Killearnan - also a marriage of Anne McLennan to William Douglas on May 12 1843 in Killearnan.  Perhaps these are the 2 missing you are looking for.     Torrygirl

PS  The only way you can prove it is to get access to the marriage certificates that would maybe list the parents of Duncan and Ann.
