Galway was the only centre in the country to come out in support of the Dublin Rising.
The leader of the 1,800 odd Volunteers in Galway was Liam Mellows, the son of a British Army sergeant. He was born at Harts Head Military Barracks, Manchester on 25th May 1892. Belfast man Alfie Monaghan, a fluent Irish speaker, assisted with the training of the Galway Volunteers. http://tinyurl.com/4de25u
