Hello everyone,
Can anyone find George Cowe (born abt. 1839) in the 1891/1901 census? He was a railway labourer, and was married to Janet Gillan. His children should include George, Agnes and Margaret. They are possibly living in Innerwick or Dunbar.

I am wondering if our Cowe families might be related. I have an Archibald Cow(e) born at Whittinghame, ca. 1784. He married Euphemia Nisbet and their children were all born at Prestonkirk. One of the sons was Francis and he was married twice. (Elizabeth Richardson, Margaret Borthwick) Any of those names ring a bell?

Hi JMClark,
My deepest apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I have been terribly busy and I'm afraid the hobby has came down at the bottom of the list. However, now that some things have "cleared" (so to speak), I've decided to return.
George Cowe was the son of George Cowe and Margaret Gourlay. He had several brothers and sister, and can be found staying at Stevenson, Haddington in the 1841 census. George snr. and Margaret married 1826 at Prestonkirk. George snr. shows as born around 1808, in Prestonkirk, on the 1851 census, but I have no clue to his parents. His death certificate has not been able to be found to confirm any either.
Hope this helps and I'll return if I can find anything more re George.
